Welcome to Sacto_Undie. This forum is a (un) natural outgrowth of the Sacto_indie email list. But indie doesn't mainline like it used to so this forum is dedicated to the underground music scene here in Sacramento, CA. I guess you can draw as many lines in the sand as you want: indie rock, art-damaged hardcore, electronic, noise, avant jazz, punk, art rock, blah, blah, blah. This site covers all of these & more. Basically, music and culture that encourages people to actively involve themselves as opposed to mindlessly consuming. This site may seem exclusive or elitist or snobbish. It is not. All people who believe in the DIY aesthetic and in the value of culture and community above money and commodity are welcome here. Those who seek yet another forum to peddle their tired shit in the hopes of "making it" can fuck off. For the socially conscious, please read the Soriano Caveat.

Lots of people like to bag on the Sacto music scene. And if you ask me my opinion, I'd be happy to point out what I think is flawed about the scene here. But there are lots of good things about the scene here too. What, you ask? Almost every show worth going to is AT AN ALL AGES VENUE!!!! That's fucking awesome. What else? If you even think of putting a band together, you can book a show and play NEXT FUCKING WEEK!!!! It's that damn easy. What else? The people here. There are no "cool" kids. Everyone's so down to earth. And if you have the balls to talk to someone, odds are, you've just made a new friend. On the real. So if the music scene here sucks, it is for one reason. Because you, dear reader residing in the Sacramento region, YOU SUCK!!! Yes. Really.

While this site has an emphasis on the Sacramento area, our focus stretches beyond just Sacto. One of the most endearing aspects of underground music is the communal aspect of it. Sadly, it's an aspect that's pretty rare, even in "indie" rock. There are tons of awesome bands from everywhere that just want to communicate to people and don't pander to the shitty "pro" approach of music biz. Unfortunately, in Sac, we don't hear too much about these bands. Most of what passes for music press here is sorely lacking and this site hopes to fill some of those holes. Any touring bands that fit the aesthetic described here can contact me at the address below if they need help with shows. I don't guarantee anything but I'll be glad to see what I can do.
