Other places of interest
KDVS 90.3 FM - KDVS is a college radio station out of Davis and is probably one of the best free-form radio stations in the country. Shows range from harsh noise to indie rock to gospel and most all points in between. Listen online!
Sacto Punk Misc. - Dave Smith has other interesting tidbits in the rest of his site. Sacto punks talking shit, a Sacto tour guide and other personal stuff. Those silly old punk kids!
Section M - A bi-monthly music rag that comes out of the North Bay. Kicks Alive and Kicking's ass 20,000 ways up and down the street. The Rant kids are ok but I gotta give the edge to Section M (but I'm biased).
Bay Area Improvisers Network - This centers mostly around the bay area (SF/Oakland). Information on shows, performers, venues, etc. in the "improvised" music scene. Ranges from free jazz to electronics to microtonal insect music to avant rock bands. Leans more towards the academic side.
Pitchfork - Online zine centered mainly around the indie rock scene. At times, pretty obnoxious but at least they update on a consistent basis.
Jazz Weekly - Absolutely wonderful modern jazz site. Respectful of jazz tradition (including its free/avant heritage) while at the same time cognizant today's leading artists. Awesome interviews.
Abide Visuals - Aaron puts out this annual zine called Djork and has done some awesome graphic art/layouts. Check out his site and any questions, just ask. He's always down for the cause.
