"Death to the fascist
insect that preys upon the life of the people." -- SLA slogan
Patty Hearst was kidnapped on February 4, 1974 by the SLA (Symbionese
Liberation Army). She joined the SLA and changed her name to Tania (taken
from the name of Commie Argentinean Norton motorcyclist Che Guevera's
girlfriend). In 1974, the SLA were pretty much wiped out by gunfire in
a shoot 'em up with the LA Cops. What was left of the SLA moved to Pennsylvania,
and then later Sacramento. It was in Sacramento where a bank robbery went
haywire, and they shotgunned Myrna Lee Opsahl to death.
SLA safe houses:
1721 W Street. The primary
headquarters. The house isn't there anymore, an apartment is there now.
914 T St, upstairs, apt. #4.
This is where they went after they croaked Opsahl.
2728 Capitol #6, Sutter Apartments.
Now it's above the frat boy Monkey Bar
Banks they robbed:
Guild Savings and Loan. 4375
Arden Way. Got slightly more than $3,700. It's now a Hallmark Store
Crocker Bank. 5746 Marconi
Ave. Carmichael. Now it's Ark Mission Church. It's where Emily Harris
shot Opsahl with a 12 gauge scattergun.
This is a really good site, and instead of me having to look up the addresses,
he already did it, and took pictures, and describes the event. Hippies
beware, he's a right-to-lifer, but his site is still great.
